Yesterday we celebrated a major victory for public schools, education equity and access to higher education in California.  Over the past several months, our policy team worked closely with the College for All Coalition and California Senator Connie Leyva (D-Chino) to secure more than $547 million to ensure all California high school students have access to the course requirements to attend one of our state’s outstanding public universities.

As we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, it is also crucial that we take the time to acknowledge artists, activists, and change makers who have brought us to where we are and continue to fight for justice.

Redistricting happens only once every 10 years—this is our chance to speak up and make sure our communities’ interests are represented for the next decade. This summer, California’s line-drawers will collect input on which areas and communities should be kept together in a district.

One of the key tenets of a strong democracy is the active participation of the people, in politics and civic life.  The institutions that make up our government must work for its people, providing the means and opportunities for community members to lead productive, healthy lives.  We know from the last four years that our democracy is fragile and for it to work its members must be able to voice concerns, act collectively and ultimately hold public officials accountable.
