Advancing Justice - LA Expands Free ESL / Civics Classes to El Monte and El Sereno

LOS ANGELES – Starting April 18th, Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Los Angeles (Advancing Justice – LA) will expand its free English as a Second Language (ESL) and civics courses—currently offered in Koreatown, Chinatown, Temple City, Rosemead, and San Gabriel—through the addition of locations in El Sereno and El Monte. This expansion is designed to reach the underserved Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities of the San Gabriel Valley and help address a growing need for English classes for citizenship.

LOS ANGELES — For Hugh Tra, an immigrant from Vietnam who says he has been politically active since high school, U.S. foreign policy is personal.

“I care a lot about foreign affairs, about what the U.S. government decides to do," said Tra, whose parents fled the Vietnam War. "I really do want our government to look at the history and culture of another society before making decisions, taking military action.
