Donna Tang has recently joined Advancing Justice-LA’s Higher Education unit as the Education Equity Coordinator. She has taken a lead role in overseeing the College for All Coalition’s Community Engagement Subcommittee and working with Southern California partners. She will work with partner organizations on higher education access to underserved populations.
Prior to joining Advancing Justice-LA, Donna started off as an intern at Cambodian Association of American (CAA) in 2013 where she worked with Cambodian youth and families who were first-handedly affected by the Khmer Rouge. In 2014, she moved onto Center for the Pacific Asian Family (CPAF) as an intern — assisting with case management, individual counseling, and facilitating groups for domestic violence and sexual assault (DV/SA) survivors. Donna came back to work for CPAF full time in 2017 as the Outreach and Education Coordinator where she spearheaded the Asian Pacific Islander Sexual Assault Collaborative (API-SAC) and CPAF’s Outreach Strategy Committee. Donna managed CPAF’s annual Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault awareness campaigns and launched CPAF’s first ever PRIDE campaign — shedding light on AANHPI LGBTQIA immigrant DV/SA survivors.
Donna received her MSW with a concentration in Administration and Community Development from SDSU. During graduate school, she interned at Survivors of Torture, International (SURVIVORS) where she did advocacy work alongside policy organizations for the decriminalization and release of detained refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers from Civic Core detention center. She did grant writing for SURVIVORS and secured local and international grants.
Donna is a child of refugee parents and the first in her family to go to college.
